List of Plants
Poisonous to Dogs
Here's a partial list of plants poisonous to dogs for the Indoor Gardener. Either don't buy these houseplants, or place them where Fido can't reach. Please note that this is only a sampling from a great number of possibilities - it is not at all a complete list.
Also remember that while one species of house plant might be safe for dogs, another species or other members of the same plant Family might be among the plants that are poisonous to them. Research before you buy, especially if your pets are prone to taste-testing your greenery.
While many plants are poisonous to one kind of pet, the Indoor Gardener who has a number of pets needs to check separate lists. Birds, for instance, can eat berries poisonous to dogs or humans, but become sick from plants Fido, for instance, can chew on with impunity.
The list below is specific to plants poisonous to dogs, but not necessarily to other kinds of pets. In addition, this is only a small sampling of the hundreds of plants that can be grown indoors.
Toxicity varies among species as well as Families of plants, and even among variations. And new varieties of the houseplants we already know are developed and enter the market regularly. Your safest action is to keep all houseplants out of your dog's reach.
The list below is based on the more extensive list provided by the ASPCA.
